形态描述：根茎块状，内部淡黄色；株高0.6-2米。叶片披针形至长圆状披针形，长15-40厘米，宽3-8厘米，无毛或背面被疏长柔毛；无柄或具短柄；叶舌长1.5-2厘米。总花梗长10-30厘米，被5-7枚鳞片状鞘；花序球果状，顶端钝，长6-15厘米，宽3.5-5厘米；苞片覆瓦状排列，紧密，近圆形，长2-3.5厘米，初时淡绿色，后变红色，边缘膜质，被小柔毛，内常贮有粘液；花萼长1.2-2厘米，膜质，一侧开裂；花冠管长2-3厘米，纤细，裂片披针形，淡黄色，后方的一枚长，长1.5-2.5厘米；唇瓣淡黄色，中央裂片近圆形或近倒卵形，长1.5-2厘米，宽约1.5厘米，顶端2裂，侧裂片倒卵形，长约1 厘米；雄蕊长1厘米，药隔附属体喙状，长8毫米。蒴果椭圆形，长8-12毫米；种子黑色。花期：7-9月，果期：10月。
